VANCE ALM, M.D.

Dr. Alm grew up in North Dakota where he completed his undergraduate studies at North Dakota State University and medical school at the University of North Dakota.

After completing medical school, Dr. Alm accepted a residency position at the University of Nevada School of Medicine in Reno, Nevada and began training to specialize in family medicine.  During his training Dr. Alm worked at the major hospitals in the Reno-Sparks area including the VA Medical Center, Renown, and St. Mary’s. After completing his residency in 2001, he established his own private practice in Sparks, Nevada and in 2014 relocated his practice to Midtown in Reno.

Associate faculty member with the University of Nevada School of Medicine teaching first and second year students in clinical medicine.

Military Service

Dr. Alm is a retired veteran. Prior to medical school, he served in the military. Prior to his undergraduate studies, Dr. Alm served four years enlisted in the US Army. Following his undergraduate studies, Dr. Alm enlisted with the United States Air Force and served as an officer where he was a navigator on KC-135 refueling aircraft while also working in a teaching capacity to fledgling navigators. During his military career, he was stationed overseas for over five years in South Korea, Japan, England, and Saudi Arabia. Dr. Alm is the recipient of the Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, and the Southwest Asia Service Medal while serving to support Operation Desert Shield. He and his crew were also awarded the Ira Eaker Award for saving an aircraft with a severe engine fire.  After his retirement from the military, Doctor Alm was compelled to continue his service to his country and chose the field of medicine.

Family and Hobbies

Dr. Alm is married; he has three children and seven grandchildren. He enjoys spending downtime with family and has many varied interests and hobbies include traveling, gardening, and American history.
